Genshiken Nidaime (げんしけん 二代目)
Review Episode 1 -  7

Airing date: July 6
Studio: Production I.G.
Genre: Comedy, Parody, Slice of life
Episodes: 13

Its been about 5 years since Genshiken 2 ended, and finally the sequel Genshiken Nidaime begins! Been waiting for this for a while and happy to see that its finally here! This time Production I.G. is working on it so it should be pretty good.

This story begins with a new semester where the president of Genshiken is now Ogiue. Needing to get more members to join Ogiue does a live drawing session in front of the crowd to get attention, they are then successful in getting 3 new recruits.

Screen captures may include major spoilers, proceed with caution.

Episode 1: "Across the road, the promised place" 「道の向こう、約束の場所」

Now that the old members are gone the rest of the crew leaves Ogiue, Ohno and Kikuchi, and Ogiue is now the new president of the club. Sue transfers to the school and joins the club and the new group starts their day off by recruiting new members. Ogiue displays her drawing skills so the public and see to draw in attention. They were successfully able to gain 3 new members; Yajima Mirei, Yoshitake Rika and Hato Kenjirou. The new group discovers that Hato is a cross dressing guy, upon discovery they test the previous members of the club if they can figure out which of the new members is the "guy"

The beginning of the Genshiken begins now! You can definitely tell that Genshiken Nidaime is more geared towards the moe fans with the great work of Production I.G. Where as the previous Genshiken series was more towards the Hard-core otaku's. Its been 5 years since the last series, the voice actors are gonna change, which I guess cant be helped, but at first I had a hard time adapting to the new voices especially Ohno. Even though this series has lots of girls talking about BL, this series is still very enjoyable for anybody to watch.

Episode 2: "Cross over my legs" 「俺の脚を越えてゆけ」

Now that everyone introduced themselves to each other, Yajima, Rika and Hato decide to have a after party meeting where they decide to have a "girls" talk, as they drink and snack up, they eventually fall asleep, Yajima wakes up first and saw Hato laying down and his skirt is revealing too much skin, but beautiful skin that Yajima is very curiuos if Hato is really a guy, she then takes a risk and tries to peek under the skirt but Rika wakes up and startles Yajima. Second part of the story, the group is invited to Ogiue's place to help her with her manga work. Hato is actually really good at drawing and Yajima gets jealous because Hato is not only beautiful but is also really great at drawing, then pressures Hato to tell his past and what caused him to crossdress, things gets really depressing, but at the end they make up.

Good episode with a clear story of where Hato comes from and the interactions between the new members were fresh. Kikuchi is as annoying as ever, but I really like how his voice actor is Fukuyama Jun so random, but awesome. This show definitely got a lot cuter since the last season, the quality is really nice too, its to be expected i guess since its been a while.

Episode 3: "Daydream believer" 「腐り姫の夢」

Madarame Harunobu, still having attachments to the club room, or more like for Kasukabe Saki, occasionally steps into the club room before and after work, since he lives close by he uses the clubroom as a place to just hangout. Ogiue and Ohno trying to figure out where Hato changes his clothes, eventually Ohno discovers Hato coming out of the girls bathroom, suprising everyone that Hato was changing in the girls bathroom, then gets told to not do it anymore and figure out a better place to change, Sue then makes a suggestion to use Madarame's place to change and Madarame with a blank face agrees.

Good to see Madarame again, but I still cant get used to his new voice, his previous voice had the hard core otaku voice, but now it just sounds like a regular working citizen...I do miss the old genshiken when the dudes would gather together and talk about anime (kujibiki ubalance) make gundams and just have discussions over anime related subjects.

Episode 4: "Beards and boobs" 「HIGE TO BOIN」

The group work hard at Ogiue's home as they prepare for their doujinshi for Comiket; the largest comic market in Japan. But with too much over work Ogiue catches a cold and has to stay home. With the help of manga club member Kumiko and Sue help Ogiue with her table at the convention. Angela also comes and visits Japan, wanting to meet Madarame once again. Also to Cosplay with Ohno at the convention.

With Angela once again coming from America Madarame need to keep watch, also since Hato's been having the opportunity to change in Madarame's room starts to get feelings towards him, but in the sense of BL. Sue is really funny, the genre Parody is included in this series because of Sue, almost all the comment she makes is a blurb from another series, its always fun to to try and figure out which series she's parading from.

Episode 5: "Go Next!" 「業 NEXT!」

Second day of Comiket, this time Madarame has his day off from work so he joins the crew, seeing Madarame, Angela makes her move on him, but seeing Madarame uncomfertable attitude towards her, Hato decides to step up and supports Madarame in his guy form. By the end when Angela keeps her moves on, Hato finally snaps and starts to fight back Angela causing Hato to exclaim that Madarame is not interested in girls because he's a Uke.

This episode was kind of nice, to be able to see the old members gathered together and enjoy comiket like in the old times. It was good to see some conflict between Hato and Angela, fighting over Madarame who is really dense or confused of the situation... the only thing he figure out what people think of him is that he's the Uke, that final scene was hilarious, just the expression Madarame made was priceless.

Episode 6: "Crying out Moe far Beyond the Horizon of Causality" 「因果地平の彼方でモエを叫ぶ」

People's been wondering "who is that beautiful girl who appears in the culture building" Hato's been getting some attention and that attracts the student council's to step up trying to figure out who this "mysterius beauty girl" is. When one of the student council member was trying to get information of Hato, a tall "bishounen" interferres the questionneire, the person is Yoshitake's older "brother", saving the day Yoshitake sibling, Yajima and Hato decide to go to her apartment. There they discover that Yoshitake's brother is actually a girl, her name is Yoshitake Risa. She is really into bishounens and so she became very curious of how Hato looks like a boy, at first Hato refuses, but eventually agrees if he can take a shower first. As Hato is taking a shower, Risa try to infultrate Hato taking a shower but Yajima tries to stop her, which leads them to wrestle down the door revealing the naked Hato, both Yajima and Risa see the treasure.

Great episode, trying to hide Hato's true self from the student councils. If I haven't read the manga this episode would of been a lot more exciting, the build up of the student council coming close to figuring out who she is and also the fact that Risa is actually a girl. Unfortunately the joke of the same member (plus Risa) having a sneak peak of Hato's guy side was done before, so it was a bit downer, but it was a good episode still.

Episode 7: "Love stories x Three" 「KOIBANA3」

Yajima and Rika step into the classroom to find Sasahara and Ogiue are discussing over the manga publication. The focus of this episode is about Ogiue trying to come up with ideas for the next doujin so she asks the other members a question of whether any of them had any past experience with relationsihps during highschool. Nobody really had any said experience, but to their suprise Yajima had something to share, from that Hato also remembers a past experience which everyone wants to hear but gets interjected by Kikuchi who also happens to have a story to share, but the story was really sad that Ogiue just decides to do another theme.

Asking "fujoshi's" if they had any relationship experience was a pretty tough question, too bad the experience Yajima said wasn't really all that lovey dovey stuff that people didn't expect from her. also the fact that Kikuchi got confessed too was surprising, but it was hilarious that he got rejected 3 hours after the confession. This episode was a little slow, a bit on the boring side, hopefully the next episode would make up for it.
