Summer Wars

Summer Time Summer Movie Summer wars!

Summer Wars (サマーウォーズ) a movie directed by Mamoru Hosoda (girl who leapth through time, wold children). The story in a nutshell is protecting the world from the hacked digital world.

What I enjoyed about this film was the way this movie was made, it seems to have two sides; the romance comedy/drama genre side where the main character Kanji has to "act" as the boyfriend of the girl he's admired (Natsuki) and has to visit her unordinary family in the country side and the other half being the sci-fi action genre, where the main character gets involved in working together with the king of battle arena King Kazma to defeat the menace Love Machine that hacked into the digital world.

Near the end of the film, I got almost teary, because the scene where Natsuki challenges Love Machine to the game of Hanafuda where they each wager their avatars and Natsuki was coming close to losing the game, when from all over the world people sends Natsuki their avatars to wager for the game. The power of coming together as one, I'm so weak from those kind of moments.

The visual through out the movie is very realistic with amazing colors, the animation is very fluid and gives it a nice movement that you wont really see in any other animation. The character design is quite unique as well, definitely more geared toward the realistic side, but still keeping the aspects of anime clear.

Another amazing movie by Mamoru Hosoda.

If you enjoy romance action sci-fi comedy, this is definietly a must watch!
You can also buy the Blu-ray for $20 so its a steal!

9.5/10
